The Rafah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, represented by Board Member Eng. Haitham Abu Taha, Head of the Economic Committee, participated in the closing session of the specialized workshop on “Gaza’s Recovery and Reconstruction,” held at the City Star Hotel in Gaza City. The session was attended by His Excellency Dr. Istifan Salameh, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, and representatives from international organizations, the private sector, and civil society institutions.
The session included a comprehensive presentation of the workshop’s findings and recommendations, which spanned four consecutive days. Discussions covered the conditions of the economic and service sectors, the urgent needs of the affected areas, and the priorities for the recovery and reconstruction phase. Participants also explored ways to provide the necessary infrastructure to restart damaged facilities and improve basic services.
The deliberations included examining the challenges facing the private sector and identifying the essential requirements for the next phase. These requirements include facilitating the movement of goods, raw materials, and machinery; providing accessible financing programs to support small and medium-sized enterprises; and proposing more effective governance and monitoring mechanisms to ensure the fair and rapid implementation of reconstruction plans.
The Rafah Chamber of Commerce and Industry participated in a broad gathering of representatives from chambers of commerce, industry, and agriculture across the governorates, as well as economic federations and other relevant bodies. This collaboration contributed to formulating a unified vision for the private sector during the reconstruction phase. The Chamber continues its efforts to represent the business community in Rafah Governorate and to convey its priorities and needs in various official and economic forums.
