Press Release from the Rafah Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The Rafah Chamber of Commerce announces the following to our dear people in the Gaza Strip:
As part of our ongoing efforts to protect consumers and safeguard public health, quantities of spoiled chicken that had been smuggled into the Gaza Strip were recently seized. The relevant authorities immediately destroyed the chicken to ensure the safety of citizens.
In light of this serious incident, the Chamber of Commerce strongly condemns anyone who deliberately imports expired or unfit-for-human-consumption goods. It emphasizes that such actions pose a direct threat to public health and constitute a blatant violation of professional and ethical standards. Such practices will not be tolerated from any merchant under any circumstances.
The Chamber of Commerce also calls upon regulatory and inspection authorities to intensify inspection and auditing procedures for goods entering the markets, ensuring that each merchant adheres to their designated area of expertise and preventing unqualified individuals from operating in sensitive sectors, particularly the food trade.
Therefore, the entry of a non-food trader into the meat import sector constitutes a serious violation, demonstrating a lack of the necessary technical and health expertise, and must be categorically prohibited.
The Chamber of Commerce urges consumers to exercise the utmost caution when purchasing food products, ensuring they check production and expiry dates, and verifying the integrity of the packaging and storage conditions, in order to protect their health and the health of their families.
The Chamber of Commerce affirms its commitment to continuing its national and professional role in monitoring these issues and cooperating with relevant authorities to ensure market safety and protect citizens.
